Frank Meyer - Director at Tonal

As Video Director at fitness tech company Tonal from 2021 to 2023, Frank Meyer delved into a whole new world of content and creative. While he had been a Digital Producer on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, Meyer had little experience in directing professional athletes or AI-driven tech content. Yet within a year, he had become an expert in the field, a coach favorite, and was directing the company’s massive Health program. The Tonal position involved directing both linear content and live shows, all while calling cameras and cueing talent via an in-ear IFB. It was challenge after challenge, and Meyer excelled every step of the way, earning much praise from his superiors and coworkers.

From 2016 to 2020, Frank was Sr. Content Producer at Fender Musical Instruments, where he played a key role in creating the look, style, and production workflow of the award-winning Fender Play app. In addition to producing and directing much of the digital tutorial content, Frank helmed the marketing campaign for the 2018 California Acoustic and Signature Ukulele launches. Meyer also served as a Field Producer and on-camera talent for three seasons of AXS’s Daytime Emmy Award-nominated series Music’s Greatest Mysteries from 2020 to 2022.

Previous to all that, Frank was Sr. Interactive Content Producer at NBC’s Esquire Network and G4tv, where he fine-tuned his skills directing and producing TV commercials (Dyson, Sonic), promotional spots (Jurassic World, State Farm, Little Caesars) and campaigns (Knife Fight) while racking up multiple Telly, Webby, and W3 awards along the way. He also morphed into an ace Digital Content Producer and Field Producer, covering red carpets and events around the world such as Tokyo Game Show, Comic-Con, CES, E3, and many, many others. Yet more awards were nabbed when he created G4tv’s web series Freestyle 101, as well as digital shoulder programming for TV shows like Attack of the Show, X-Play, Friday Night Tykes, Best Bars in America, and others.

Books, Music Videos, Etc.

And just to keep things weird, he also directed the surreal MTV Italy puppet TV series Videogame Theater, blogged for Yahoo! and Variety, and composed music for Law and Order: Special Victims UnitAmerican Pickers, Fox Sports, Animal Planet, UFC, and a slew of terrible MTV and E! Shows.

Additionally, Frank is a published Author, writing On the Road with the Ramones (Omnibus), When the Wall of Sound Met The New York Underground (Rhino), and Van Halen: A Visual History 1978 – 1985 (Chronicle). His latest books, Diaper Dude and From Dude to Dad: The Diaper Dude Guide to Pregnancy, are via Penguin/Random House. He also has a deep music career as a guitarist/vocalist known for his work with The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs, Rock ’N’ Roll Hall of Famer James Williamson (Iggy & the Stooges), Eddie Spaghetti (Supersuckers), heavy metal cult hero Thor, and many more. These days Frank directs Tony Horton content for Tonal, directs music videos for the likes of The Dwarves, GayC/DC, Cherrie Currie, Highway 61, Trading Aces, and many more, and is a freelance Editor and Podcast Producer.
